Pancake Day

Connections encourages everyone to have fun with family and friends throughout the month of February in support of Pancake Day.

Pancake Day, an initiative of UnitingCare's SHARE Community Appeal, is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2012. This year it falls on Tuesday 21st February.

Pancake Day raises vital funds for the 1.8 million Australians UnitingCare agencies assist each year. Over this time, more than 1.5 million pancakes have been flipped and $1 million raised nationally.

This year our focus is on young people facing disadvantage.

From our 11 offices across Melbourne's south and east, we support young people through a range of innovative programs and services.

Thorne, now 19, is turning his life around thanks in part to the Connections program Clean Slate. To read more about his story, click here.

Traditionally Shrove Tuesday is the last day to eat all the fat, eggs and dairy products in your kitchen before the start of Lent - a time of abstinence and reflection in the 40 days before Easter.

The European custom of making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday was one way to use up these 'luxury' items before Lent. Over the centuries, Shrove Tuesday and pancakes became perfect partners.

Connections, the largest UnitingCare agency in Victoria, is proud of its links with UnitingCare and is keen to support events such as Pancake Day that raise awareness and much needed funds. We encourage you to run your own Pancake Day event - it's easy and fun!
