Music Together

Music Together is a music therapy program that helps enhance family relationships, attachment and communication between parents and young children and social supports through music, instrument play, drama, dance and other creative arts.

Music Together sessions are conducted by qualified Music Therapists and are facilitated by partnerships between Connections' and Uniting Church congregations that donate appropriate facilities such as their hall and the time of congregation members who act as volunteer assistants.

People who can access the service

Music Together caters for preschool aged children up to five years of age and their parents or caregivers.

Music Together is accessible and affordable to all families and supports low income families.

How Music Together works?

Music Together provides a welcoming and safe environment where parents can learn to enhance positive interaction with their children through a structured 45 minute music therapy session. Each Music Together group meets in a local Uniting Church hall or similar space. Each group is run by a qualified Music Therapist and supported by volunteer assistants from Uniting Church congregations.

Music Together encourages positive relationships between children and their parents through an appropriately structured combination of music, musical instrument play, dance, drama and other creative arts.

Volunteers from Uniting Church congregations are available to support parents with young children and babies and to provide catering and other assistance to the Music Together groups.

How clients can benefit from the service?

Parents and caregivers of young children are supported to enhance their relationship with their child in an enjoyable, creative, safe and welcoming manner. Some parents who may feel isolated from their community can also meet new people who have things in common with them.

Uniting Church congregations, their members and other members of the community can support Music Together through volunteering their time or through donations of appropriate space or funds.

How this service benefits the community

Research shows that a positive relationship between a child and their parents/caregivers is very important for the child's future development and opportunities in life.

Children who have experienced these positive relationships have increased potential to participate fully as members of the community.
