Kindergarten Inclusion Support Service


The Kindergarten Inclusion Support Service supports the inclusion of children with severe disabilities in their four-year-old funded kindergarten program, through the provision of an Additional Assistant to work with the group.

People who can access the service

The Kindergarten Inclusion Support Service is only available to children who have been granted assistance through the Commonwealth Special Education Program (SEP).

    The SEP is provided for children with severe disabilities who:
  • Show significant risk of injury to self or others
  • Are extremely restricted in their capacity for movement
  • Have exceptional support needs that require immediate medical intervention

How the Kindergarten Inclusion Support Service works

    The Kindergarten Inclusion Support Service:
  • Coordinates the placement of Additional Assistants to the kindergarten
  • Provides relevant in-service training for Additional Assistants
  • Ensures that inclusion and appropriate support is provided
  • Facilitates inclusion practices for kindergartens and specialist agencies

How clients can benefit from the service

Children with severe disabilities and high medical needs are able to attend to four-year-old funded kindergarten programs and be supported.
