Cultural Diversity

Connections UnitingCare has a strong commitment to develop culturally appropriate services. We are forging and building partnerships to ensure that we can be guided and can improve our understanding, responsiveness and work with culturally and linguistically diverse people including Aboriginal families and communities.

We have...

  • a highly successful and well-respected Chinese Family Services Project, including Chinese-speaking staff that bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in community development and cultural-specific expertise,
  • an organisational commitment to recognise cultural diversity including through our imagery and publications and graphic representation at offices and in office receptions,
  • translated the Connections values into thirty two different languages and have made these available in a variety of places including as a section of the Connections Strategic Plan pack, as large posters in receptions and Connections offices and as screen savers for all staff,
  • translated materials to assist our clients in accessing an interpreter and also providing translated information on rights and responsibilities and feedback and complaints,
  • actively worked on a number of projects that support and encourage cultural diversity and develop service models that are appropriate for CALD people,
  • a commitment to mutual learning and professional development exchange with CALD organisations,
  • a commitment to provide ongoing cultural awareness training to staff and to incorporate cultural competence as a core underpinning in our policy development and strategic planning, and
  • an aim to develop linkages, improve understanding and professional practice, and provide a reciprocal learning exchange to provide leadership and modeling of collaborative partnership relationships.
