South Eastern Chances

Two Logos

South Eastern Chances provides support for children and young people living in South East Victoria, to obtain educational, cultural and social opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to them due to a lack of financial and/or broader supports.

    South Eastern Chances is an innovative scholarship program that exists to:
  • create opportunities that develop the interests and talents of young people, developing a sense of self belief and hope for the future;
  • foster and support disadvantaged young people in the south eastern suburbs with the aim of strengthening the wider community and engaging broader support networks, including clubs, groups and schools.

Angela Forbes‘South Eastern Chances fits so neatly into the work of Connections – it’s there to support young people, to give them a hand.  The beauty of this program is that it aims to get in early- developing aspirations, hopes and dreams.’
Angela Forbes
Chief Executive Officer, Connections UnitingCare

Background to 'Chances'

The Southern Chances program was established in partnership with Connections and ForChildren (Australia) Inc in 2006.  The program was transferred to the auspice and management of Connections in May 2007.   The Chances model is one that provides assistance to young people who have a passion to achieve but lack the financial and sometimes emotional support to enable them to realise their full potential.

What Benefits Does South Eastern Chances Create?

The benefits of South Eastern Chances can be far-reaching, propelling young people on to bigger and better things. As the coordinator of the program, Connections believes that by supporting and encouraging vulnerable children and young people to develop their interest and talents and pursue their dreams this will contribute to providing a better chance for them individually and the broader community into the future.

    Through the support and on-going growth and development of the South Eastern Chances program, Connections aims to:
  • create economical, social, cultural and educational opportunities for children and young people who demonstrate talent or a natural ability;
  • form partnerships and links, which foster the potential of children and young people who have participated in the South Eastern Chances program;
  • build the community capacity within the targeted areas through improving educational attainment, qualifications, skill development and personal development opportunities for young people living in the south eastern suburbs.
