    The Awards aim to:

  • Recognise, support, encourage and link young people (from Victoria and Tasmania) who are making a contribution to the eradication of poverty,
  • Increase public awareness of the causes and consequences of poverty within our local community, across Victoria and Tasmania, throughout Australia and the world,
  • Stimulate discussion, activity and specific actions to deal with poverty related issues.

Why Have Anti-Poverty Awards?

The Connections UnitingCare Anti-Poverty Awards are presented within Anti-Poverty Week (in October).

As Anti-Poverty Week states 'Poverty and severe hardship affect more than a million Australians.' Connections UnitingCare and so many other community welfare agencies support vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community. Every day we provide services like intense family support for families (often with children) who are in crisis due to difficulties including drug and alcohol addiction, mental illness, experience of family violence and poverty.

We aim to support our clients to overcome social isolation and gain self-confidence and a sense of worth, we work in partnership with clients to achieve positive outcomes and more broadly we work within the community to raise awareness about the issues associated with disadvantage and poverty.

What Are The Awards?

One Award recipient will receive a grant up to the value of $4000 to continue their work. Encouragement Awards up to $1000 are also offered.
